For many years, NPO has sponsored the NPO Blog, a platform for the expression of opinions on matters of interest to our readers.  We are moving to the new platform, Shared Parenting News, which will focus on communicating important news and keeping readers apprised of developments related to NPO’s mission to “improve the lives of children & strengthen society by protecting every child's right to the love & care of both parents after separation or divorce.”

Shared Parenting News will report progress toward equal shared parenting on a variety of fronts. NPO has a well-deserved reputation for conducting, supporting, and reporting on important research on shared parenting. We also have focused on legislative efforts to promote equal shared parenting by creating a legal presumption that it is in children’s best interest, as the research now clearly demonstrates that it is in the vast majority of cases. Shared Parenting News will, of course, report developments in these areas.

As the equal shared parenting message is increasingly embraced by the general public, we believe there is a broader, and very positive, story that needs to be emphasized: equal shared parenting is becoming the new norm! More than ever, parents are recognizing the value of shared parenting for children and for both parents. It doesn’t make any sense to routinely sideline one parent and overburden the other. Separating parents are increasingly understanding that, in raising children, four hands are better than two.

NPO needs to spread this positive message in order to accelerate the embrace of the “new normal” for separated parenting. We need the voices of moms and dads, grandparents, step-moms and step-dads, and adult children of divorce extolling the benefits of shared parenting. Shared Parenting News will seek to be a conduit for these messages, as well as for news about the research and legislative efforts NPO is known for.
